Who we are
CatholicMeet is operated by its owner in Ireland. Contact us using the support email on the Support page for any privacy question.
Data we collect
Account details (name, email), profile information you provide (age, photos, location, faith details such as Mass attendance and faith journey), your swipes, matches and messages, and basic technical data. Faith-related information is sensitive personal data, and we only process it because you choose to provide it.
How we use it
To run the service: show you relevant profiles, create matches, deliver messages, prevent abuse, handle payments and improve the app. We do not sell your personal data.
Location
If you allow it, we store your approximate location (rounded to about 1 km) to show you the closest people first. It is kept in a private record that other members cannot read, and members only see the city you type into your profile. You can refuse the permission and still use the app.
Selfie verification
If you choose to get the Verified badge, you take a live selfie. An automated service compares it with your profile photos and checks the gesture requested. The result (verified or not) and the time are stored. The selfie image is used only for this check and is never shown to other members, but the image file may remain in our storage provider until it is removed, and we will delete it on request. Verification is optional.
Automated safety checks
Messages are screened automatically for scams, abuse and spam before they are delivered. Profile photos you add are checked automatically by an AI image-analysis service (the photo is sent to that service for the check) to detect explicit content, content that suggests a member may be under 18, and images that are mostly contact details. Members can be hidden or suspended after reports, and reports are reviewed by our team. These checks help keep the community safe and do not involve advertising or profiling.
Notifications and email
We send push notifications (in the Android app, delivered through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging) and email alerts for new matches and messages. You can mute a chat from the chat menu, and you can turn email alerts off in Settings at any time. Read receipts can be switched off in Settings.
Your rights
Under GDPR you can access, correct, export or delete your data and withdraw consent. You can delete your account in Settings or contact us.
Retention and security
We keep data while your account is active and delete it after you delete your account, except where the law requires otherwise. We use industry-standard safeguards but no system is completely secure.
Children
CatholicMeet is not for anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from minors.
