The short answer
- Want a Catholic-only service with deep faith questions: CatholicMatch.
- Want a polished Christian app aimed at younger singles: Upward.
- Want a large international Christian app that says messaging is free: SALT.
- Open to any denomination and an established brand: Christian Mingle.
- Want the biggest pool and are happy to filter yourself: Hinge.
- Want Catholics nearby plus hangouts and pilgrimages, cheaply: CatholicMeet.
Full disclosure: we make CatholicMeet, so take our view of ourselves with a pinch of SALT (sorry). We have tried to say plainly where the others are the better pick.
CatholicMatch
CatholicMatch has run since 1999 and is the best-known Catholic-only dating service. Profiles include detailed questions about faith and Church teaching, which saves time if doctrine matters to you. Its app store listing says it is free to join, match and message, with an optional paid Premium membership. Best for: people who want everyone to be Catholic and to have answered the hard questions up front.

Upward
Upward launched in 2020 (it used to be called FTH) and is a Christian, not specifically Catholic, swipe app with a modern design and a younger crowd. Best for: Catholics in their twenties and thirties who are open to dating other Christians.
SALT
SALT describes itself as a Christian-owned dating app, free to join and message, and reports more than a million members in over 50 countries. Those are the company’s own figures. Best for: Catholics comfortable meeting other Christians who want free messaging.
Christian Mingle
One of the oldest Christian dating brands, cross-denominational, on web and mobile. Reviewers report that messaging generally needs a paid subscription. Best for: older singles and anyone open to dating across denominations.

Hinge (with the religion filter)
Hinge is not a faith app, but it has far more users than any of the above and lets you filter by religion. The catch: the filter tells you a label, not a life. You will need to ask about Mass and marriage yourself.

CatholicMeet
The newest and smallest app here, which is the honest downside. What it does differently: it shows Catholics closest to you first, every profile shows parish, Mass habits and prayer life, and you can meet through hangouts such as Adoration, rosary groups and coffee after Mass, or on group pilgrimages. It is free with 25 likes a day; Premium is €2.99 a month. It works in the browser now, with Android coming.
What matters more than which app
- A profile that sounds like you, with your faith described honestly, not a list of devotions.
- Three or four clear, recent photos, including one smiling one that is not a selfie in the car.
- Messages that ask about something on their profile.
- Patience: give any app a few weeks, and keep going to things in real life too.
- Safety: never send money to someone you have not met, however devout they sound.

Is there a free Catholic dating app?
CatholicMeet is free to match and chat, with 25 likes every 24 hours. SALT also says it is free to join and message. Most apps charge for extra features.
Is Upward a Catholic dating app?
No. Upward is a Christian dating app open to all denominations. Catholics use it, but it is not Catholic-specific.
